Dhanyamaladhara

Dhara is the continuous pouring of a stream of medicated water all over the body. Warm liquid prepared from mixture prepared from cereals and vinegar obtained from citrus fruits, horse gram, sliced fruits , njavara rice, and millets blended in a piece of linen and immersed in a large pot with water and boiled until the extracts get into the water. This liquid is used for therapy and this medicated liquid is called Dhanyamla. The procedure is done for 45-60 minutes and lasts for 7-12 days.

Procedure

The patient is made to sit on droni , talam is applied to the head and then the therapy begins. The medicated liquid is poured onto the whole body in a streamlined flow. A gauze is tied around the patient’s head and the body is covered with a thin cloth below the neck. After the procedure, therapists clean the body, remove gauze , apply rasnadi choorna or powder overhead and the patient is advised to take rest for about half an hour.
