Types of psoriasis

Plaque psoriasis – the most common form affecting most people where lesions appear to be raised areas of reddened skin with silvery white scaly skin around them.

Pustular – here we see the formation of pustules on the skin, ie; small bumps filled with fluid. They are noninfectious ie; not pus. The skin becomes red and tender. They are usually localized on feet and hands.

Nail psoriasis causes various changes in the nails of fingers and toes, their texture structure, and color.

Guttate psoriasis – Copious tiny oval teardrop-shaped spots mainly found in joints, especially in elbows, knee joints, and ankle joints. They are also seen in the trunk and scalp.

Inverse psoriasis / Flexural psoriasis – Smooth inflamed patches of skin, found in skin folds where it sweats more, like the inner thigh, groins, under breasts, axilla, etc.

Erythrodermic psoriasis – Extensive inflammation and exfoliation over most body surfaces, severe itching, swelling, and pain. This may be fatal because the inflammatory response is more rigorous.
