What Ayurveda can contribute?

Ayurveda is an integral approach to human health. It is not just the prescription of medicines that have no effects. Ayurveda is a science that has certain rules and principles. The primary concept of Ayurveda is Prakrithi or Body type. According to Ayurveda, each person has unique physical and mental constituents which are determined by the predominance of doshas in the body, this body type has a great influence on a person’s health and illness.

Even though patients present with similar symptoms, the treatment approach differs for each based on the body type. Ayurvedic treatment includes primarily diet and proper lifestyle advice. This is the initial step of treatment. There is also an eight-fold examination process in Ayurveda which includes pulse diagnosis and marma point assessment which helps in body type analysis. If required, necessary blood tests, urine tests, cardiac examinations, radiographic investigations, and other required diagnostic tools are used to get a clear picture of the condition and it helps in deciding appropriate treatment or therapies.

Treatments in Ayurveda include diet suggestions, lifestyle modifications, ayurvedic herbal medications, panchakarma therapies to detoxify and pacify ailments, yoga, pranayama, and meditation.

According to Ayurveda Wellness is not merely the absence of disease, it is overall wellbeing. A person is healthy only when all his cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems function in a balanced way and emotions are in a balanced state. The ayurvedic approach ensures establishing this balance.

Ayurveda provides the best possible remedy for most ailments, even for conditions for which no other system of medicine can provide a permanent solution.

Ayurvedic medications have specifications regarding the time of administration, duration of medicine intake, path to be followed ( food ), and revising medicines based on conditions. This highlights the importance of taking an ayurvedic consultation before going for treatments and medicines.

Ayurveda and modern science can complement each other in many ways. While Ayurveda is a traditional system of medicine that originated in India thousands of years ago, modern science has evolved significantly since then. However, both systems share a common goal: to promote health and wellbeing.

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in Ayurveda within the scientific community. Researchers have been studying Ayurvedic practices and remedies to understand their mechanisms of action and potential health benefits. For example, studies have shown that certain Ayurvedic herbs may have anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and anti-cancer properties.

Moreover, Ayurveda places great emphasis on lifestyle factors, such as diet, exercise, and stress management, which are also recognized by modern science as important determinants of health. Ayurvedic principles can be integrated into a modern lifestyle to promote overall health and prevent disease.

It is important to note that Ayurveda and modern science are not the same, and they approach health and disease from different perspectives. However, by integrating Ayurvedic practices with modern science, we can gain a more comprehensive understanding of health and wellbeing and promote a more holistic approach to healthcare.
